The CGS band wagon rolled on to the Bank House Golf Course Bransford Hall. It was a sweet sunshiny day and the course was in the best condition I have ever seen it, well done to the new owners. The last time we held a Major event at this venue the course had been battered by the elements and was in a state of disrepair due to the wet weather over a prolonged period.

Congratulations to our Captain Lloyd ” Bugsy” Thomas, on what is one of the highest Stableford points returned this season, posting 39 points to take the day’s top spot.  Approaching the final hole with 38 points secured in the bag, he was only able to manage a single point on the final par 5 of the round, therefore missing out on breaking through the 40 point barrier.

Lloyd, who on previous outings has failed to capitalise on his high handicap, received a shot back before the start of the Major.  Playing off 22 he managed to keep his game together and now greatly accepts being cut to 18.8 after this fine display.

Lloyd stated that he left his ‘new technology’ driver at home and decided to bring out his old faithful, which he used to keep his drives on the fairways and out of the bushes, whereas on all previous courses the CGS has played so far this season he has been a regular visitor,  Well done Captain.

Returning a score of 38 points right on the Captains tale was Ronald Ross, only one point off the winning score with a very good show of his golfing skills. Congratulations Ron on this 2nd place finish, which on most of the Majors this season his performance and points tally would have been good enough for a win.

With 36 points and securing a well-earned 3rd place finish our current champion Bob Dhammi, playing to his handicap with a typically solid performance from the reigning champ. Well done Bob, although it would have been different outcome if Chris Barnes a new visitor on his first outing with the CGS had joined the CGS membership prior to the event posting an impressive score of 37 points, Chris also ended his round in fine style by holing out for an eagle on the final green having started the hole with a 2 iron off the tee, Well played Chris.

Longest drive was taken by Tennis Russell, with a drive of nearly 300 yards.  He threw down the marker and no one could get near it and keep it on the fairway. Well done Tennis a great strike.

Nearest the pin was claimed by our Chairman Junior Harris. Well done Junior, nice shot, good enough to see you back collecting yet another prize this season.

A great day was had by all who attended, Frank “the Chair” McCook! Yes that’s right coming in with the lowest score on the day Frank took the pleasure of occupying the chair reserved for the lowest score on the day and received the day’s booby prize – a sleeve of balls , well needed considering he’d lost a few on the day.

A thank you to all the staff at Bransford for welcoming the CGS to your club and to the grounds staff for all the improvements made to the course.
