In a season that has seen the CGS struggle for numbers at many events, 25 players arrived to do battle at the penultimate challenge of the season.

Little Lakes is a traditional parkland course with its unique quirky look and feel. The course setup is challenging but gains the favor of most players by offering enough chances to score well. Among the positive features of this course is the warm hospitality and the wholesome meals provided by the catering staff. This occasion was no exception and the roast beef meal was without doubt the best meal of the season.

Although the course showed signs of the recent wet weather the fairways and greens were in fairly good condition. The weather forecast indicated the possible threat of rain and so all players arrived at the first tee prepared for any eventuality.

Among the guests for the day was Balbir Banga who has been a long standing member of the CGS. However, Balbir or Billy as he’s known to CGS members has been away from the game for almost two years following the birth of his first child. The members were equally delighted to welcome our much loved handicap secretary, Roan McLeod, who has been generally unavailable since embarking on the journey of matrimonial bliss. We can but hope that this is the sign of things to come.

Throughout the day conditions were generally good for scoring and six players made at least one birdie during their rounds. Frank McCook was once again among the prizes after winning the long drive competition. One can only wonder where he stores all his trophies. Well done Frank. The 17th par 3 measures little more than a hundred yards but it was noticeable that very few players managed to find the green in regulation. Clyde Pile showed the way by hitting his tee shot inside 10 feet and that was enough to win the nearest the pin competition. Congratulations Mr Pile. The nearest the pin in two took place on the short par 4 18th. Keith Riley took the honors by hitting his approach to within 7 feet. Well done Mr Riley.

In 3rd place with a stableford score of 33 points was the ever consistent Eric Queely. In second place and also with a score of 33 points was Don Campbell. In first place with a winning score of 35 was Keith Salmon who became a two time winner this season. Well done gentlemen.

The order of merit contest remains as compelling as ever with the top three places being occupied by Ian Higgins (636 points), Junior Harris (628 points) and Bob Dhammi (624 points). With only the 8th and final major of the season remaining there is everything to play for among the top five. So on we go to our two day event at Hawkstone Park for the CGS Open Championship.

Full Event Result:

                <colgroup>
                            <col class="ninja_column_0 ">
                            <col class="ninja_column_1 ">
                            <col class="ninja_column_2 ">
                            <col class="ninja_column_3 ">
                            <col class="ninja_column_4 ">
                            <col class="ninja_column_5 ">
                            <col class="ninja_column_6 ">
                    </colgroup>

For the 7th major of the season the CGS members gathered at the Little Lakes course near Bewdley.
