Lilleshall Hall Golf Club Report
A superb turnout of 39 golfers from the Caribbean Golf Society UK descended on the historic Lilleshall Hall Golf Club on Sunday 14th June for what was another competitive and deeply testing event on the 2026 calendar.
The weather gods were firmly on our side, serving up beautiful, bright conditions throughout the day. Coupled with a course presented in immaculate, top-tier condition from the opening tee box to the 18th green, it was a picture-perfect day for golf. However, nobody out there was under any illusion, Lilleshall Hall is a pure “thinking man’s” course, and it threw down a serious challenge that was heavily reflected across the scorecards.
Designed by the legendary Harry Colt (the mastermind behind world-famous tracks like Wentworth), Lilleshall is famously described by those in the know as the “Pine Valley of England.”
While the front nine offers a more open, traditional parkland feel that allows you to get your rhythm, the back nine completely transforms. Players find themselves navigating incredibly tight fairways carved straight through dense, mature woodland. If you stray offline here, you aren’t just in the rough, you are strictly playing recovery shots out of the trees.
Adding to the drama are the green complexes, small, exceptionally fast, and heavily undulating. A massive talking point over post-round drinks was just how critical pin placement was, making two-putting a real test of nerve.
Feature Holes of Note:
The 4th Hole: A highly memorable tee shot surrounded by water, leading into a narrow neck of fairway. The approach shot tests your accuracy to a long, slim green that slopes deceptively from right to left.
The 15th Hole: A bruising, long dog-leg left with out-of-bounds tight on the right. Anyone short off the tee found themselves entirely blocked out by a wall of trees on the left, turning this into a massive card-wrecker for several of our players.
The 16th Hole: A brutal par 3 where the green slopes heavily from back to front. Leaving a ball past the pin resulted in some lightning fast downhill putts that triggered more than a few painful three-putts.
Final Standings & Results
With points incredibly hard to come by on such a tight track, anyone breaking into the 30s played some exceptional, disciplined golf.
A huge congratulations to Anthony Davidson, who masterfully managed his way around the tight woodland to claim 1st Place with an impressive 34 points. Hot on his heels, Landis Brooks, who secured 2nd Place with a hard-fought 32 points, just edging out Erroll Murray into 3rd Place on a tight card countback, also finishing on 32 points.
1st Place Anthony Davidson 34 Points
2nd Place Landis Brooks 32 Points
3rd Place Erroll Murray 32 Points
The win moves Anthony Davidson firmly into first place for Order of Merit (OOM) with 350 points, with Carlos Wallace chasing in second with 318 points, with Errol Simms in 3rd place with 268 points.
Club Hospitality
Once the battles on the fairways were over, the society received a first-class reception in the clubhouse. The hospitality from the Lilleshall Hall staff was premier, with hot food, refreshing drinks, and a genuinely warm, welcoming atmosphere that rounded off a brilliant Sunday’s golf.
There was also time to present Raphael Richards with a cheque from the CGS family for £450 contribution to assist with the rebuilding of two primary schools in Jamaica, following the hurricane disaster earlier in the year. Contributions have mainly come from auctioning off complimentary 4 balls that CGS have negotiated this year from various clubs, along with individual member donations.
A huge thank you to everyone at Lilleshall Hall Golf Club for looking after the CGS so well. We are already looking forward to returning to challenge these tight fairways again in the future!
The CGS express moves onto to Gaudet Luce GC for the next hotly contested major battle (Secretary Shield) on Sunday 12th July 2026.
