Windmill Village kicked off the start of the first full season of golf with the Caribbean Golf Society. A contrast to last year at Windmill, this year provided much tougher conditions, however the majority of CGS members who agreed to play turned up with a few no shows. Although the course was wet and we had to play off mats on most holes and two temporary greens, the standard of golf was pretty good considering. Reports have it that everyone was out months before practicing for the start of the season and some of the scores showed that pre-practice was worth while.

The format was a stableford with full handicap allowance, playing for the Fix Up Trophy. “The what!”, I here you say!….yes the Fix Up Trophy. Well the Fix Up Trophy is our first major trophy and was kindly presented to the CGS by CGS member Neville Rhoden, who’s handyman business is called Fix Up.

And finally the result, well it was a three way tie at 40 points between CGS Vice Captain Dean Leith, David Simon and Handicap Secretary Roan Mcleod. The final decision was made on count back with the Fix Up trophy going to Roan Mcleod playing off a handicap of 11.

The Longest drive went to Ellis Williams with a nice drive on the 17th into the wind…need to check that driver!!

The Nearest the pin prize on the 3rd went to yet another committee member CGS Captain Jacko Powell with a nice strike to within around 15 feet on a sloping green and the best thing was he nailed the putt for birdie.

Thanks to all CGS members for turning up to play in the poor weather, thanks to Dean Leith for purchasing some nice Trophy’s which were presented for nearest the pin, longest drive and overall event winner, thanks to CGS Secretary Denny Senior for arranging the event and thanks to Neville for the donating the Fix Up Trophy.
