The CGS 2022 golfing season has now come to an end with the final event at Lingdale done and dusted.

Its been a long season and with the order of merit already sown up the Players Trophy was the final major trophy up for grabs.

This final major for the Players Trophy was held in Leicestershire at Lingdale Golf Club with 42 CGS members and two guests in attendance. It was the final chance for members looking to get into the winners circle before the curtain closed on the 2022 season.

The Lingdale curse was also the final event of the 2021 season at which Trevor Lammy won scoring 35 points. The Lingdale course which was seeded in 1966 by Course Architect David Tucker with a 9-hole course brought into play the following year as been a real challenge for the CGS, scoring on what’s now a well established 18-hole venue as not been easy with some difficult holes requiring a lot of course management. There are some long par 4’s and 3’s and several holes where navigating around a dogleg was required and failure result in a lost ball or a very long second into wind to the green.

CGS golfers also found it tough in 2021, with only ten of the 37 members in the field were able to score 30 points or more. That statistic was only bettered by one additional player this year with eleven scoring 30 or more points from 42 in the field. The winning score this year was 36 points and was a mark achieved by Landis Brooks who closed off his 2022 season with his second victory having won the Founders Day event at The Staffordshire back in April. Landis played some solid golf and won by two points from Al Beckford who secured the second place spot on count-back from Chris Powell.

For the final time this year, the nearest the pin and longest drive prizes were on offer and the winners were as follows: nearest the pin went to the man of the day Landis Brookes, nearest the pin in two was won by Chris Powell, nearest the pin in three went to Errol Murray and longest drive went Elford Douglas.

With all the major events now wrapped up it only leaves the end of year Presentation Dinner and Dance where all the winners will receive their winning trophy its also a great occasion for CGS members to attend and enjoy themselves with friends and family, its also a time to give back for all the times we’ve had away from family throughout the season and a time to give to those less fortunate through our designated charities on the night. The last time the Presentation Dinner was held was before the first lock-down it will be good to see as many as possible attending what as been a good night for many years before.
