It was a somewhat overcast day that greeted the members of CGS at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club. It wasn’t as bad as the weather and conditions we experienced the last time we visited this twenty-seven hole club. Two years ago there was so much rain the ground was so sodden that golf balls were lost on the fairways. It was clear from the course condition that the club had do a tremendous amount of the work on the drainage. This year was different the course and greens were in very good condition.

This years event involved a two tee start, the three loops of nine at Cleobury can be very confusing indeed as each set of nine holes shows a stroke index from one to nine so it was a little confusing working out the stroke indexes to cover an 18 hole round, luckily this was sorted for the members before play commenced.

The day was won with a very impressive score by Vassel Brown. Playing off a nine handicap, Vassel amassed a score of 42 points and by all accounts he just kept his game simple off the tee with some deadly putting to back it up to walk away with the TNCM Trophy. In second was past Order of Merit winner Dave Brown with 39 points with Carl Douglas achieving third place with 35 points.

The Order of Merit is all but sewn up for the year – with only one event remaining. It appears no one can gain enough points from the final event to overtake the current leader CGS captain Eddie Wedderburn. Clinching the title will also mark the first time in CGS history the title as been won more than once.

The final major event of the season will be played at Lingdale Golf Club on Sunday 9th October. Then we look forward to our Presentation Dinner and Dance on Saturday 19th November at The Pavillion, Moor Lane, Birmingham.
